(132 Episodes) "The Life of Riley": starring William Bendix as lovable, blundering, Chester A. Riley, was a radio situation comedy broadcast during and after wartime 40s. Because of its overwhelming radio popularity, Riley graduated as easily to a 1949 feature film, as it did to 1950s television. Also, in 1958, it hit the newsstands, when Dell Comics released "The Life of Riley" in comic book form. . Although "The Life of Riley" had originally begun as a proposed...

THE GREAT GILDERSLEEVE The Great Gildersleeve is a radio situation comedy broadcast from August 31, 1941, to March 21, 1957. Gildersleeve, a regular element of the radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly . The character was introduced in the October 3, 1939 episode (number 216) of that series. The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed...

Real life husband and wife team, George Burns and Gracie Allen, star in this radio sitcom. Most of the antics revolve around Gracie's dizzy behaviors and George's responses. This show includes some great banter and "one liners" typical of vaudeville acts. Musical interludes sometimes break up the show's scripted plots. From 1946-1949 the show was titled, Maxwell House Coffee Time, after the show's sponsor. Celebrities often figure into the story lines in comical ways. The show...

The Battle of Midway chronicles a significant moment in U.S. History, as have other Ford films like Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) and My Darling Clementine (1946), but the focus here is on ordinary Americans filmed at the time, not famous historical figures seen in retrospect. Although the use of a hand-held 16mm camera will strike some as uncharacteristic of Ford's style, there are many ÂFordian touches throughout the film. Ford weaves voiceover and music into the real footage of the battle,...

ABC Mystery Time came on the air late enough in the Golden Age of Radio that all of the episodes should have survived. This is doubly sad because it was such a terrific program. The network and its affiliates tinkered with the title of the program at times, calling it Masters Of Mystery, Mystery Time Classics, and just plain old Mystery Time. The official name of the program, hosted by Don Dowd, was always ABC Mystery Time. The program did have enough to attract some serious star power,...

The Eisenhower Years was a 13-part radio documentary that was produced by Kansas State University in 1969 & 1970. According to Kansas Cooperative Extension Service History, 1914-1989 , " It was aired over the K-State Radio Network, the National Educational Radio Network (the fore-runner of National Public Radio), and the Voice of America ." I've tagged these files with "1970" & "VOA." Any typo or error is mine. :)
